Launch a sustainability campaign in your community through the People and Planet Challenge today! We are giving away $3,000 worth of prizes for winning campaign materials and challenge submissions for The People and Planet Challenge.
The People and Planet Challenge is open to all middle school and high school students, teachers, and administrators. Anyone that completes all four challenges will receive a Sustainability Specialist Certificate! However, to be eligible for the prizes, your school must be within San Diego County or the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), which includes: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southwestern Solano, and southern Sonoma counties.
Challenge activities are adaptable for distance, hybrid, or in-person learning, and are available in both English and Spanish.

Challenges and Campaign
Throughout The People and Planet Challenge, you will complete four challenges to learn more about how waste, water, transportation, and energy use affect air quality to create a People and Planet campaign! You will identify and propose solutions to excess resource use and communicate conservation strategies with your families, peers, and community.

Boost your resume and demonstrate your knowledge of sustainability and communication with a Sustainability Specialist Certificate. Every student who completes all four energy challenges will receive a certificate from SEI’s Energize Schools program via email. |

2.Think about your audience
Who is going to see your post? Classmates? Friends? Family? Teachers? Consider who you are targeting with your campaign and write a message that is tailored to your audience. For example, if teachers are your audience, you might want to emphasize what you learned in the challenges and encourage them to sign up for their class. Or if your audience are classmates, you might want to focus on encouraging them to participate in the challenge and change their behavior to help conserve energy.
3.Link back to The Energy Challenge website and tag people on social media
Encourage others to learn about energy conservation and efficiency as you did through the weekly activities! Tag your school’s social media account to encourage them to share the message. At the end of your caption be sure to include the following:
