Schools across California participated in The Energy Challenge in the Fall of 2020 to rally school spirit, hit NGSS standards through energy education, and achieve energy savings. Challenge activities were adaptable for distance, hybrid, or in-person learning and available in both English and Spanish.
The Energy Challenge is designed for high school students, teachers, and school communities.

Participate in Bilingual Energy Challenges
Conserve energy and educate the community through a series of challenges ranging from personal energy audits to leading conservation campaigns. Challenges and resources are available in English and Spanish. More Info on Weekly Challenges
Through the challenges, students will dive deeper into their relationship with energy. Students will identify and propose solutions to excess energy use and communicate conservation strategies with their families, peers, and community. Challenge 1: Energy, People, & the Planet - exploring your carbon footprint! Challenge 2: Energy Around Me Scavenger Hunt - what is plugged into your walls? Challenge 3: Energy Conservationist - Make a plan for reducing your energy use! Challenge 4: Saving Energy in My Community - Become an energy conservation leader in your community! |
Run a Conservation Campaign with Your School Community
Use the knowledge you gained from the challenges to spread the word on energy conservation and efficiency. Connect with students, faculty and staff on ways they can reduce their personal energy consumption! High schools in California can receive tailored support from an Energy Advisor at SEI’s Energize Schools program. |
Receive an Energy Specialist Certificate
Boost your resume and demonstrate your knowledge in energy conservation,efficiency, and communication with an Energy Specialist Certificate. Students who complete all four energy challenges will receive a certificate from SEI’s Energize Schools program via email. |
